Chicago Counsel for a Cause

The mission of the American Heart Association (AHA) is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. Heart disease is the number 1 cause of death in the United States and claims more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined. The AHA is rallying the legal community in Chicago to combat this health threat. Legal industry leaders are joining forces with the AHA to support this effort and make an impact in our communities. 

The Chicago Counsel for a Cause campaign will celebrate the 10th anniversary of impact in 2025. Since its inception in 2015 the campaign has raised over $5 million to combat heart disease and stroke, promote health equity and provide lifesaving resources to the community. The campaign serves to support the full mission of the AHA, while providing essential resources to communities and schools that have a tangible impact on the lives of countless individuals, advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.

Notably in 2021, the campaign set a goal to address uncontrolled high blood pressure, expand CPR awareness, focusing on communities disproportionately affected. In recent years, the campaign set out to secure funding for CPR in Schools® training kits. Promoting Hands-Only CPR awareness and education to staff and students in Chicagoland schools.

The Need is Clear
Since the AHA’s founding in 1924, deaths from cardiovascular diseases have been cut in half. And yet, there are still so many lives to be saved. Recently, death rates have worsened, and equity gaps have widened. Solutions are not getting to the people who need them the most. We are committed to change that.

2028 Impact Goal
Building on over 100 years of trusted leadership in cardiovascular and brain health, by 2028 the AHA will drive breakthroughs and implement proven solutions in science, policy and care for healthier people and communities. The greatest discoveries in health must reach people where they are.
