STEM Goes Red: Needs that Still Exist

More work is needed to close gender disparity gaps when it comes to CVD research and clinical trials participation.

• Clinical trials have not always adequately enrolled women or analyzed  sex-specific differences in the data.
• As of 2020, only 38% of cardiovascular clinical research trial participants are women.

Unfortunately, a troubling equity gap exists in STEM, from the lack of young women pursuing STEM-related degrees to the low number of people of color in STEM careers. Opportunities are lacking for too many bright young minds of diverse backgrounds. The American Heart Association is working to close these opportunity gaps through STEM Goes Red.
