Two girls making peace signs in front of STEM goes red sign

Our future is why.

Chicago STEM Goes Red is an annual program for high school girls who are interested in STEM. This is an opportunity for them to develop relationships with girls from around the Metro Chicago area and connect with mentors who are women currently working in STEM.

Women remain underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

  • Women occupy nearly half of all U.S. jobs (48%), but only 27% of jobs in STEM fields.
  • Women represent around 30% of the world’s researchers.
  • Women now earn a majority of all undergraduate and advanced  degrees, but they remain a small share of degree earners in certain  STEM fields like engineering and computer science – areas where they are significantly underrepresented in the work force.
  • Black and Hispanic adults are less likely to earn degrees in STEM than  other degree fields, and they continue to make up a lower share of  STEM graduates relative to their share of the adult population.

All Chicagoland high school students are welcome to attend this free event!
